Wauwatosa Window Restoration

Name: Exterior Paint and Restoration, Including Windows & Storms

Location: Milwaukee – Upper East Side

Problem: Several areas of the home’s design, including the bargeboards, brackets, & rafter tails, as well as the original windows and sills had damage or rot with flaking, chipping paint. The original wooden storm windows had been replaced with aluminum ones.

Solution Provided: We proposed doing work on the north & parts of the west sides of the house and painting the exterior wood, including the trim, wood doors, fascia, soffits. We also proposed removing the storm windows to our shop, removing the metal cladding along the window casing and sills, and restoring and painting both to match.

First we removed the existing paint, stripped and sanded to almost completely bare wood. Most of the exposed trim was stripped and sanded, but in some areas like the soffits and window casings where the paint was in good shape and properly adhering were only scuff-sanded where needed, feathering around spot-stripped spots with a sander. We repaired any damaged wood with epoxy following protocol employed by the US Parks Services, focusing mainly on the brackets and rafter tails. The entry door was stripped to bare wood, repairing as needed before priming and painting. After a full cleaning we primed all areas of bare wood and applied 2 coats of premium latex paint, caulking wherever needed. Once finished painting we re-installed the freshly painted storm windows and any hardware that had been removed.
