Name: Exterior Paint & Restoration
Location: Milwaukee – Lower East Side
Problem: The home’s entire exterior is in need of new exterior paint & wood repairs/replacement.
Solution Provided: Since we approached the home as a whole we removed the storm windows and brought them back to our shop in Shorewood for restoration. Then we removed the existing paint on the entire home, scraping off all the loose and failing paint to a degree that exceeds the industry average, going nearly all to bare wood. For more highly visible locations we took extra precautions to feather and fill any remaining paint or gouges in the wood. Before beginning the paint we needed to perform prerequisite restoration carpentry to some of the underlying wood.
We began by removing the rotted or soft wood, and either repairing it with epoxy or replacing it. These areas included the sills, casings, corner boards, soffits and fascias and belt-line moldings. For larger sections of rot we replaced it with custom milled clear, vertical grain cedar, primed on all sides prior to installation.
After a full cleaning (no pressure washing) we primed all of the bare wood, including the porch floorings, and painted with two coats of premium latex paint. To finish, our team applied caulking wherever needed, touched up paint in any areas and reinstalled the storm windows and door.
