Wauwatosa Window Restoration

Name: Window Relocation

Location: Shorewood

Problem: The current homeowners wanted the home’s historic wood window that was removed to be re-installed to its original location on the north side of the home.

Solution Provided: Prior to beginning any work, our crew inspected the location to see if the original metal lintel is in place. Once this is inspected and approved, the crew moves forward by removing all the existing bricks blocking the original opening, then installing a plastic dust barrier on the interior side of the home. Now that the area is prepared the team removes the existing plaster and the current framing infill. At the shop our crew restored the original window by stripping the sashes and priming and painting the interior and exterior with 2 coats of paint. The team built new jambs to fit the existing sashes and new opening in the house all while matching the style of the home. While installing the windows we also added a period-appropriate metal weatherstripping and hinging that goes with the hardware to both the interior sashes and the exterior storms. Then they used caulk to secure the new window jambs and sills for the window relocation. Once in place the team installed new custom milled window casing on both sides of the window. To finish up the crew caulked the window fully and touched up any paint.
