Wauwatosa Window Restoration

Name: Custom Built Windows

Location: Columbus, WI

Problem: The windows on the second floor of the Fireman’s Park Pavilion were rotting and unstable.

Solution Provided: The goal was to build 12 shop-built windows to match in size and profile of the existing windows on the second floor of the ballroom at the Fireman’s Pavilion. We started by removing the existing siding and interior finish. Any damaged framing we repaired or modified. Next, we started to build the windows to match the current windows as closely as possible. More specifically, the profile of all the rails, styles, and muntins were matched exactly as detectable by the human eye, using custom-made knives for our shaper. Old glass was used to an extent based on condition, with new glass mixed in. Hardware selections chosen by client and attached to windows. All window lumber used for the sashes, jambs, and sills was clear, vertical grain douglas fir. Next, we Installed new interior and exterior sills and casings, matching existing with new custom cut moldings as needed. We primed and painted all of the window sashes, jambs, sills, and casing, as well as filled nail-holes in new casings. To finish everything off we touched up painting as needed to any pre-painted elements.
