How many years have you been in the industry?
John: In storm windows less than a year, but cabinet making, reproduction furniture building, furniture restoration, & retail displays for 38 years.
Are you an early bird or night owl?
John: I would say an early bird, but the older I get the later that becomes.
What were your first jobs?
John:I would say my parents’ furniture restoration business at 15, but my first real job at 15 1/2 was Burger King but got fired after 2 weeks for taking vacation after my second week.
What’s the biggest misconception about your industry?
John: This is difficult for me to answer, but I would say that there is money to be made in a skilled trade if you put the time and your heart in it.
What advice would you give your teenage self?
John: Stick with your dreams and don’t listen to the naysayers around you.
What’s the one thing people don’t know about you?
John: That I worked for a coating manufacturer for 25 years making stains, top coats, & paint.
What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
John: Building a reproduction tea table for a customer in Williamsburg, and Marie & the shop owner telling me to not give up because of my talent. (Marie Bond’s & Willis Meadows words)
