Name: Copper Gutter Restoration

Location: Milwaukee – Upper East Side

Problem: Home was in need of roof and copper gutter restoration and replacement. 

Solution Provided: Our team first started by first removing a layer of asphalt shingles across the roof and dormers,  followed up by removing siding and metal ledges on each dormer. Next the team removed all flashings and the EPDM lining of built in gutters. Our crew inspected for any underlying damage to the existing sheathing or framing. Our team discovered that the framing needed a combination of replacement and restoration, and the gutters needed to be re- pitched as well to direct water into the drainage.  After finishing the framing, we installed a Grace Ice and Water Barrier over the built in gutter trough and covered it with red rosin paper slip sheet. Then we installed a custom bend gutter liner made from 16 oz copper with rivets and solder. Once the copper is installed it covers the leading edge of the flange running up the pitched roof and outlets are cut to drain into existing downspouts. Following this our team applied Grace Ice and Water Barrier to the bottom 3 feet of all eaves and applied new 30# felt underlayment to all roof surfaces. Our crew installed new copper step flashing, starting at the brick, up to the roof and dormer, and on all the roofs’ intersections. Next they re-shingled the main and dormer roofs, then installed the new custom copper counter flashing. The counter flashing is cut into brick, goes over step flashings, at brick to roof intersection. For the final touches on the dormer we installed new cedar shingles and custom bent ledges on dormer eaves. To finish this project our team replaced all the roof vents and created a new ridge vent on the main roof.
