Name: Shingle & Flat Roof Replacement with Copper Dormer
Location: Milwaukee – Riverwest
Problem: The asphalt & cedar shingles on the main roof need to be replaced. The shallow pitch flat roof needed to be replaced and the metal paneling over the eyebrow dormer has rusted.
Solution Provided: We proposed replacing the asphalt shingles and adding a new rubber roof to the North shallow pitched roof. We also suggested replacing the metal paneling with new copper, as it had begun rusting.
For this project our crew began by removing all the layers of both cedar and asphalt shingles, as well as the decking across the main roof. On The dormer roofs we removed the shingles and flashings, as well as the metal paneling on the eyebrow dormer. Next we removed the gutters and set them aside to be reinstalled with their current drainage plan once the roof work was completed.
Next we installed new 7/16” OSB decking to the entire shingled area of the roof. Then we installed 30# felt underlayment and on the lower 3 feet of the shingled eaves we installed a Grace Ice and Water Barrier. For the pitched roof we installed a new fiber board underlayment. Once we’ve finished installing the new roofing materials we installed new flashings around the perimeter, in valleys, wall and roof intersections and around chimneys.
On the pitched roof we installed a 60 mil EPDM rubber membrane and re-shingled the main roof and dormers with Landmark shingles. Moving onto the eyebrow dormer first we restored any rotting wood on the trim. Any areas that we had to repair rotting wood we applied primer and paint to match, especially focusing on the trim. To finish we installed a 16 oz copper paneling, hammering and soldering all seams fully.
